Bars
Fell's
Point has the peculiar distinction of having more bars per square
mile than anywhere else in the US. What's even more strange-
there are FEWER bars here now than there were 100 years ago!
We're not kidding! Literally every other building in Fell's
Point seems to be a bar, so you will have no shortage of places
to imbibe. Here are a few we like, in no particular order, and
no, they do not give us free drinks for recommending them:
- The
Wharf Rat, 801 S. Ann St., 410-276-9034. They have
a HUGE Fry-O-Matic, which is the source of such culinary delights
as their Fish and Chips. They also have a great beer special
daily all day until 7:00 pm- the Three for Four. This means
that you can pick three of any variety of Wharf Rat's very
own Oliver's Ale (must be three different varieties, however)
for four bucks. This is a very good deal indeed for Fell's
Point, where most places are going to charge you $4 or even
$5 for a Guinness. Even without the 3 for 4 special, beer
here is less expensive than most places in Fell's Point. The
Wharf Rat is also haunted, so come on our ghost tour to hear
the tale of the former owner who was gunned down inside…

- Friends,
1634 Aliceanna St. 410-732-3885. This bar has a good jukebox,
good food, and a good neighborhood crowd. It was also rumored
to have been a brothel in the 1800's… and a hangout of
Billie Holliday's.
- Leadbetter's,
1639 Thames St. 410-675-4794. Leadbetter's is another haunted
bar- ask the manager, Fons, to tell you about it!
- Duda's
Tavern- 1600 Thames St. (410) 276-9719 Truly a neighborhood
bar- and haunted too!
- Max's
on Broadway- 737 S. Broadway, Baltimore, Maryland
21231, 410-675-MAXS (6297). Another haunted bar on our tour.
- One-Eyed
Mike's,
708 South Bond Street, Baltimore, MD 21231, (410) 327-9823,
. Home of the World's First Grand Marnier club, excellent
tavern fare, a larger than normal percentage of employees
named Mike and a great backyard courtyard. One-Eyed Mike's
serves lunch, and dinner and is open Monday-Saturday.
- Bertha's,
734 S. Broadway, 410-327-5795. Bertha's has a cozy bar area,
live music many nights, and it's another neighborhood hangout,
especially during snowstorms.
- BAR,
1718 Lancaster St. 410-327-4508. We've never actually been
IN Bar, but we pass it on every ghost tour. There is rarely
anyone inside, and it seems slightly eerie. We like it for
the strangeness factor, and the fact that it's named "Bar".

Restaurants / Food
Fell's
Point has an odd selection of restaurants. For the most part,
there are bars that serve bar food, and super-high-end places
with great food and prices to match. There's not much in between,
except Pazo which
recently opened. There are a couple of exceptions- bars that
serve good food that we like, which we'll note here.
- Black
Olive, 814 S. Bond St., 410-385-4680. Great Mediterranean
seafood restaurant. It's expensive, and we recommend making
reservations, especially on the weekends.
- Blue
Moon Café, 1621 Aliceanna St., 410-522-3940. The
best breakfast place in Fell's Point, and possibly all of
Baltimore. You WILL wait, possibly for a long time, for a
table if you get there past 10:00am. Be forewarned. Try to
snag a cinnamon roll before they are all sold out!
- Dudas,
1600 Thames St. Baltimore, 410-276-9719. Another local favorite
with good tavern food that will stick to your ribs.
- Kali's
Court,
1606 Thames St. 410-276-4700. It's always crowded and the
building is beautifully renovated. Expensive. Seafood mostly.
- Kali's
Mezze, 1606 Thames St., 410-563-7600. This is the
less expensive sister restaurant to Kali's Court and is located
right next door. Serves delicious mediterranean tapas and
has some small tables outside.
- Kooper's
Tavern - Kooper's has the best hamburgers in
Baltimore. Tuesday is 1/2 price burger day- the best deal
in town.
- Liquid Earth, 1626 Aliceanna Street. Calling all vegetarians, vegans and people who just want to eat well. Liquid Earth has a tasty and healthy menu, as well as coffee and sweets for people who like to undo their good work.
- Pazo,
1425 Aliceanna Street, Baltimore, MD 21231, 410-534-7296.
This new destination restaurant serves up style and tapas.
The building is a beautifully converted factory with a bar,
lounge and dining room on the bottom floor and a soaring Mezzanine
level where tables line the perimeter. The tapas is Mediterranean
and the menu also offers pizzas. We highly recommend the food
here, and the martinis are great. Reservations needed. Pazo
is a non-smoking establishment. It can get a bit noisy inside,
especially at night when it's crowded, but we think the food
is well worth putting up with it.
- Peter's
Inn, 504 S. Ann St., 410-675-7313. We really shouldn't
tell you about Peter's because it's one of our favorite places,
and if we tell everyone we won't be able to get a table there
(it's already bad enough on the weekends). However, they don't
accept reservations, and we'll probably beat you there anyway!
Moderately priced. It's also a bar. Now non-smoking only (even
at the bar!).
- Sam's Kid:
811 S. Broadway, (410) 522-3663. Great new Asian restaurant. We loved their soups and dumplings. Very reasonably priced. Be warned: it can get crowded on weekends and at night.
- Ze
Mean Bean Café
1739 Fleet Street, (410) 675-5999, is slightly off the beaten
path on Fleet Street, but well worth the trip for mouth watering
Eastern European specialties such as their pierogi platter,
borscht, or sandwiches made on freshly baked bread- and don't
miss their desserts!

Shopping
Fell's Point is lined with specialty shops. Here are a few we
like:

- aMuse, 1623 Thames St Baltimore,
MD, 410-342 5000. Small in size but large in appeal, aMuse
offers innovative and fun toys for all ages. Helpful owners
and staff.

- Antiques Row, Fleet St. There
are several antiques shops that line both sides of Fleet St.
in Fell's Point. This
- Cupcake,
813-15 S. Broadway. 410-522-0941. Fell's Point got a slice
of a New York boutique when Cupcake moved in. You'll find
a trendy, but never fashion victim, selection of up to the
minute looks. Kind of like raiding your much cooler older
sister's closet.
- A
Good Yarn, 1738 Aliceanna St. 410-327-3884. They have
a small selection of quality, interesting yarns. The owner
is very helpful and you can actually speak with her and ask
questions, in contrast to most of the crowded yarn stores
in Baltimore.

Big Iguana - 1633 Thames Street, 410-675-3231, Hippy
clothes and candles and stuff.
- Mystery
Loves Company, 1730 Fleet, 410-276-6708- Baltimore's
only specialty mystery bookstore. They also sell our new book,
Baltimore's Harbor Haunts!
- Trixie's
Palace, 1704 Thames St. 410-558-2195. This shop has
cute women's' clothes (Some from Free People, the same line
that Urban Outfitters carries), cool t-shirts, and girly tchochkes,
like Hello Kitty paraphernalia.
- Sound
Garden, 1616 Thames St., 410-563-9011. New and used
CDs and vinyl.
- Su
Casa, 1625 Thames St., 410-522-7010. Su Casa carries home
furnishings and other house wares, like barware, etc. A lot
of it is imported from Mexico.
Lodging
Fell's Point: There aren't too many places to stay in Fell's
Point. There are no large hotels, so smaller boutique hotels
and B&Bs are the order of the day.
Nearby lodging
Most of the hotels in the area are clustered
around the Inner Harbor.

Parking
See the map at the bottom of this page. Fell's
Point has just built a spanking new parking GARAGE ON CAROLINE
STREET (parking is just $3 after 5pm!) and we urge
you to park there because if you park on a residential street
for more than two hours you will get a $40 parking ticket. The
garage is much cheaper, and we know that you'll want to stay
in Fell's Point for more than two hours! Note: The parking garage
costs just $3 after 5:00pm (cheaper than the meters) Parking
is hard to come by in Fell's Point in the evenings and on weekends.
It's much easier to park in the garage on Caroline Street.
Did we already mention this? Good! Now you know!
Parking in metered spots is free after 8:00pm! We wish you
good luck in finding a metered spot! Parking meters accept credit cards and then give you a ticket
which you must display in your car window. Broadway and Thames
have these meters.
Transportation
The Charm City Circulator launched in 2010 and connects the neighborhoods around the Inner Harbor. The Green Route connects Fells Point to the Inner Harbor area. For schedules and maps see their web site here: http://www.charmcitycirculator.com/
Another way to get around the harbor area of Baltimore is by water
taxi. There is now only one water taxi company that serves the
area, with a convenient stop in Fell's Point near our tour departure
point, Max's on Broadway.

- Water
Taxi:
All day pass: Adults: $8, Children 10 and under $4. The Water
Taxi stops at the foot of the Fell's Point Square on Thames
St.

Land Taxi: Also, you can usually find a land
taxi outside of the Admiral Fell Inn, at the corner of Thames
and Broadway on the Fell's Point Square. Cabs abound in Fell's
Point and you will have no problem finding one.
